mumbo jumbo

  • Great ride at Bloomer on Friday with Mike, Tom and Nick … beautiful night, great trail, great company … THAT is why I ride a mountain bike
  • Rode Stony with a mellow group on Saturday morning, spent the afternoon at the shop so Nick could oogle his new frame, and then rode 1.5 laps at maybury. Maybury just kills me – my back is still sore. Its such a short trail, but it really just tears me up! Fun tho – losts of flow and swoopy stuff. w00t
  • I gave up on the original sock I was knitting and decided to start over using woolease and the woolease ‘joan’s sock’ pattern. So far, its going much better than with the orange sock yarn and little sticks. The pattern(s) I tried to follow on the orange sock just made the heel turn way to weird and the sock was just generally funky. I’m sure I’ll rip it and reuse the yarn once I get a better feel for this sock making stuff … I do like making socks, I think they’ll make nice xmas presents this year 🙂 Gotta get started early … heh ..
  • Still in turmoil over this dreaded hair business … After some forum reading yesterday, and learning how Tea Tree oil can be almost like a wonder-drug for dreadlocks, I decided to try something different. Instead of using my normal KnottyBoy shampoo bar, I used my Tea Tree oil facial soap on my hair. I know, kind of sounds weird, but the ingredients on the Tea Tree soap were mostly just natural oils .. no perfumes, no residue.. I figured it was worth a shot. Today, my dreads feel great – cleaner, softer, mellower (how can they be mellower? well, generally I can hardly move them around my head because they’re so dry they hurt my skull.. also, they generally lay in funny ways, causing me to be dissapointed with the way they looked .. and really, i often felt like i was wearing a helmet) .. So, score 1 for Tea Tree oil … This is not to say that I’ll give up on my KnottyBoy soap — I love that stuff … just that I might switch it up with the Tea Tree soap from time to time … Plus, I can buy the Tea Tree soap locally and for much less money than the KnottyBoy soap .. hmmm …
  • I’ve been wanting to write about balance (no, not physical or physiological balance) .. We’ve been getting such good control over our finances .. if we (I) could just figure out how to balance the rest of our lives … biking, working, housework, etc … I just can’t seem to find the time and energy to fit it all in … this makes biking season extra frustrating for me .. grr
  • I have a bunch of really pretty tulips growing in my front yard. I always get tulips, but since Nick and Alex pulled out the ugly bushes last summer, I think I have 2 or 3 times as many tulips as I usually get. They’re just gorgeous – red, yellow, purple.. Most mornings when I leave for work, and when I come home, I like to pause and just look at them. They’re really pretty and I’m glad they’ve survived so long. This same family of tulips has been growing in this yard probably longer than I’ve lived. I’m sure they were planted by Hattie, maybe when her kids were young. Whatever the case – they make me smile every day.
